Mitch Hertel
Instructor

I moved to Southeast Minnesota at the age of 4 after spending the early years of my life in the flat, frozen plains of North Dakota. Growing up, I always knew I wanted to contribute to the betterment of others and myself. I considered many paths, including law enforcement, the military, EMT, and the fire department. In 2012, I made the decision to serve, and by 2013 I found myself on the yellow footprints of MCRD San Diego, CA, joining the United States Marine Corps. I served as a Cyber Network Specialist at my first duty station, Camp Lejeune, NC, with 8th Communications Bn. My deployments with the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit in 2016 and 2018 involved working alongside the Navy and attached Marine Recon units.
My fascination with firearms started at a very young age, driven by a curiosity about how they worked and the technical design that enables their function. My interest grew when I built my first AR-15 platform after my first year at Camp Lejeune. I appreciated the Marine Corps' approach to training riflemen as I experienced it firsthand. Reconnecting with Bryan and Danh, high school friends, we regularly practiced at the range, conducting drills and honing our tactical skills with rifles and pistols.
After serving eight years in the Marines, I'm thrilled to help guide new shooters through the essentials and fundamentals of shooting at VoKos Solutions. I am also eager to teach, learn from, and assist seasoned shooters in expanding their tactical knowledge and application in various scenarios.
